Poland says takes gas from storages as Russian imports stopped

MOSCOW, Jun 22 (PRIME) -- Polish company PGNiG is taking natural gas from its underground storages after it stopped imports of Russian gas claiming its poor quality, the company said in a statement late on Wednesday.

“Taking into account the rapid contraction of the quality of gas pumped in the Russia–Germany direction, the operator of the gas transportation system stopped receiving gas from the Yamal–Europe pipeline. In order to guarantee supplies to clients, PGNiG restricted replenishment of gas reserves for the 2017–2018 winter and started taking…the reserves,” the statement read.

PGNiG said it was waiting for Russia to explain the situation. “We are in constant contact with operators of transmitting systems of Poland and Belarus,” the company said.
